WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in recognition of Jewish American Heritage Month, which is celebrated throughout the month of May:
“This May we recognize Jewish American Heritage Month, a celebration of the long, rich history of Jewish Americans and the numerous ways they have shaped and strengthened American society.
“An issue that has long been close to my heart is the relationship between the United States and Israel. President Obama and Congress pledge to strengthen this bond and are dedicated to helping bring peace to Israel and the Middle East. Just yesterday, the House passed a bill that recognizes the 61st anniversary of the independence of the State of Israel, reflecting our dedication to our continued successful partnership.
“We are a nation of immigrants, and America would not be what it is today without the contributions of Jewish Americans. The Jewish community serves as an example to all Americans of unwavering commitment to the values of freedom, liberty, and basic human rights. Throughout the month of May, we honor the role Jewish Americans have played in our country.”
