WASHINGTON- House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (MD) applauded the failure of House Republicans to pass a bill today they had loaded down with special interest tax provisions.  Democrats supported the underlying bill which gave tax relief to members of the armed services:

"I strongly supported the Armed Services Tax Fairness Act but I did not support the extraneous tax breaks that Republicans added to this bill in the House Waysand Means Committee.

Today, a significant number of House Republicans joined with Democrats in their distaste for the maneuvering on this bipartisan bill important to those on the front lines.  Democrats will work to bring back to the House Floor the Armed Services Tax Fairness Act without these special interest provisions."
