WASHINGTON, DC – House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) was honored this week by the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC) with the Tikkun Olam – a Hebrew phrase that means “repairing the world” – Award for his leadership and relationship with the Jewish community:

“I am honored to accept this award, as the Obama Administration and the 111th Congress continue our efforts to strengthen the United States’ bond with Israel.  I have long been involved in this issue and am dedicated to shaping policies that will help bring continued democratic reform, a free press, and a vibrant civil society to Israel and the Middle East. Through our continued work and support, we can help the members of this society live lives that are fairer, richer, and more fruitful.

“I look forward to our continued work together, and in the spirit of Tikkun Olam, I accept this award and remain committed to doing all we can to ‘repair the world.’”
