Friends,

The way we receive and share information is changing rapidly.  One in three Americans are on Facebook each week, YouTube just passed two billion views per day (600 million of them in the U.S.), and Twitter recently surpassed 100 million accounts – and those numbers are double what they were just one year ago.  Unlike traditional sources of information like newspapers and television, these social networksare interactive, allowing people to communicate with each other and share their own information and opinions.

For these reasons, social networks are a great way for constituents to engage with their Members of Congress.   That’s why I am hosting a friendly competition among my Democratic colleagues to see who can expand their reach into these networks the most.  I encourage all of you to search for your favorite Democrats in Congress on these sites and signup to follow them.  For example, you can follow me by clicking “Like” on my Facebook page, “Follow” on my Twitter page, and “Subscribe” on my YouTube page.  I’ll share substantive news and information about what’s happening on Capitol Hill, in my Congressional District and around the country where I travel.

Sincerely yours,

Steny H. Hoyer
