WASHINGTON – House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in response to news reports of the passing of former Illinois Senator Paul Simon:
“Senator Paul Simon had an epic political career that anybody would be proud to claim as their legacy. He was an honest man whose long fight for responsible fiscal policies continues to resonate today. He brought Midwestern intelligence and integrity to Congress – qualities that are often too scare in Washington.
“Paul’s leadership and compassion will be greatly missed. He was a credit to the State of Illinois, this Congress and our nation, which he cared about so deeply. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
