WASHINGTON – House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today in support of the Improving Access to Assistive Technology for Individuals with Disabilities Act of 2004:

 “Mr. Speaker, technology has become tremendously important in everyone's daily life, but there are perhaps few places where technology plays as important a role in an individual's daily lives than for individuals with disabilities.

19 House Democrats Send Letter to HHS Opposing Administration's Decision

WASHINGTON -  House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (MD) today released a letter from 19 House Democrats to Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson, stating opposition to the Bush Administration’s decision to “reprogram”, or move funds from state and local bioterrorism preparedness.  The Administration has indicated it will shift $55 million in Fiscal 2004 bioterrorism preparedness funding away from the State and Local Bioterrorism Preparedness to other initiatives.  The text of the letter is below:

“I join our nation's governors, public health officials, and public health advocates in opposing the Bush Administration's plan to ‘reprogram,’ or shift, $55 million in Fiscal Year 2004 bioterrorism preparedness funding away from the State and Local Bioterrorism Preparedness to other programs.

2006 Cuts In Domestic Spending On Table

The White House put government agencies on notice this month that if President Bush is reelected, his budget for 2006 may include spending cuts for virtually all agencies in charge of domestic programs, including education, homeland security and others that the president backed in this campaign year.
