Republican Outrages

Afternoon Round-up: Farm Bill Fails Edition

The headlines this afternoon aren’t kind for Republican leadership after GOP division was on full display today when 62 Republicans voted against the GOP farm bill:

Roll Call: Farm Bill Defeated in Blow to Boehner

“The House defeated the farm bill resoundingly on a 195-234 vote Thursday, dealing another blow to Speaker John A. Boehner as he continues to struggle to move legislation opposed by conservative interest groups.”

McCain, Collins Slam Republicans For Budget Hypocrisy

It was definitely a lively debate on the Senate Floor this afternoon. A great illustration of the growing rift between Republican factions, two Senate Republicans argued against their own Republican colleagues on the next step in our budget process. As Talking Points Memo explains, Sens. John McCain and Susan Collins agree with Democrats and are in favor of following regular order and object to Republicans’ continued obstruction of the budget process:

Hoyer: Congress Ought To Focus On The Sequester Until We Find A Solution

“Mr. Speaker, this week the House will be voting for the 37th time to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

Republicans' Rough Day

They went from this:

“We are forging ahead,” Cantor said, adding that “we don’t believe in Obamacare” — an attempt to beat back on the idea that this legislation expands the program. When asked if Republicans can pass the legislation, McCarthy said “every time you ask this question, I’ll give you the same answer: the first rule of Fight Club, we don’t talk about Fight Club.”

This Tells You All You Need to Know

Let’s hope the American people weren’t looking forward to Congress actually getting something done, since Republicans clearly aren’t interested:
